Obviously, I can't quite compare with the whole compulsory army thing. However, I was told that my schedule would be a certain way until the end of the year, and then found out that it wouldn't be the case. I applied for a marketing internship that would've been perfect for me--it involved blogging, podcasting, and other forms of new media for large-scale educational purposes--and set up an interview time and date. Unfortunately, I was informed later that my schedule would be different, and had to cancel the interview, making me look more immature than I had hoped for. So, yeah. Not even remotely near the same level of inconvenience and frustration of your situation, but at least I can relate in some ways...
